The National NMRA train show will be in Salt Lake City in 2019 and the club is planning on attending.   Its an opportunity for us to share our layout at a national level and show we are the best looking modular group in the region.

The 2019 National Train Show is held in conjunction with the national convention of the NMRA in Salt Lake City, UT. It will be held in the South-Towne Expo Center in Sandy, UT.

The show is a three day show and will open Friday, July 12th, running through Sunday, July 14th for guests, convention, attendees, and the public.  Because this is a large effort we are starting the planning now in 2018, a full 19 months out to ensure everything we do is geared towards getting the  layout and the members are prepared to participate in the show.

I've asked for three regular members to join a planning committee with the Board of Directors that will meet several times this year to work through logistic and costs so we can commit to the NMRA show in SLC by June 2018.  On the revamped club website I'll be creating an informational web page with all the latest planning details that will be updated as we approach the show date.

The club announced we'll be taking part in six train shows for 2018 as we've completed finalizing our 2018 planning calendar. Each show is a unique opportunity for the club.  Four of the six shows happen in the first five months of 2018.
  • Rails In The Rockies Train Show in Estes Park, Colorado in February is our first show of 2018.  The annual show entering its 21st. year is the longest running show the club has participated in since our founding.  This years will mark our 17th appearance in the show since 1999.
  • Rocky Mountain (TCA) Train Show in March at the Merchandise Mart in Denver has become one of the largest train shows west of the Mississippi.  The Rocky Mountain Trains show spans over 2 1/2 arces of the facility includes multiple layouts and scales, how-to clinics, vendors and manufacturers from across the country.
  • Nebraska West-Central Division Train Show is a regional NMRA show in April in North Platte, Nebraska.  The show is a unique show that combines an opportunity to tour Union Pacific's Bailey Yard, The largest rail facility in the world.
  • Sherman Hill Annual Train Show in Cheyenne, Wyoming in mid-May is held in conjunction with Cheyenne's Depot Days. Folks who come out to the train show have a bonus opportunity to also tour UP's hertigage steam facility and see surviving steam locomotives including the Big Boy 4014.  The show is shifting to having layout alternate years so this will be a last show for us there until 2020.
  • Rocky Mountain Hobby Expo Is a new show that made its debut in October 2017.  It showcases all the hobbies together from RC planes, cars and drones to trains.  This year's installment will be held on October 27th - 28th, 2018 at the Merchandise Mart in Denver, Colorado.
  • Rocky Mountain (TCA) Train Show November 24th - 25th, 2018, Loveland, Colorado.

The Lewin family contacted the club last week regarding the sale of John’s collection of trains.  We’ll be giving folks in the club first crack at the items for sale before taking the remaining items to the swap meeting and eventually to auction.  I’ve got a list of the items and working with the family on the pricing and will provide to the members once its complete.  John had over 300 ready-to-run cars, roughly 100 engines and over 700 unassembled kits (mostly roundhouse).

John was a long-time member of the club since 2000 passed away in October 2015.  He was a master at casting and mold making. Many of the rocks, walls, and bridge abutements the club uses on modules were cast from molds fabricated by John.
